Died at Cleveland, Ohio. Age 78. Widow of Philander Hale both of whom were among the pioneers of Warsaw. Youngest and last surviving child of Caleb Hatch, who brought his family from Bennington, VT to Warsaw in 1811, 8 years after the 1st settler located his cabin in this place. Mrs. Hale at the time of that evenful and hazardous journey was 1 1/2 years old. Her father cleared the farm upon which he built a log house just north of our village cemetery, subsequently replacing it with a notable "large red house" rearing his family there and maintaining a hospitable home until his death in 1840 there. Mrs. Hale married with her husband resided on the farm in the south west part of Warsaw. Known as the Philander Hale farm for about 60 years which was her home, from which she was temporarily absent at the time of her death at her daughters, Mrs. Nancy Clark in Cleveland, Ohio. Her remains were brought to Warsaw 12/6/1887 for interment beside her husband in our village cemetery which notably was once a part of her fathers farm on which she was reared. 3 of her children, Mrs. Nancy Clark of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Mary Bannister of LeRoy, NY and Caleb Hale of Warsaw were at her burial, also grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thus one by one the children of the 1st settlers of our thrifty town rest from their labors in our midst, to whom we owe the beginnings of our present prosperity as a town and their works do follow them.
