In about 1854, a very young Lucy was married a Virginian John H. Arbaugh (1833 – 1862), who fought in the Civil War. They had three children together: Sarah, John, and Jesse.
After John died, Lucy married again to William H. O'Dell (1826–1903) in 1862. He was a widower with four young children.
The children of William Hinton and Lucy Jane were Morgan, Elijah, Charles, Susan, Martin, Delilah, baby Filstia, Margaret, Peter, and Josephine 'Josie'.
Lucy Jane died in 1906 in Nicholas County, West Virginia, having raised sixteen children and enjoying many grandchildren.
