Barbara Mickey, 85, passed away Friday, March 9, 2007, at Bishop Spencer Place in KCMO. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 15th, at Mt. Washington Cemetery.

Barbara was born October 12, 1921, in Kansas City, Mo., to Lewis A. and Dorothy W. (Menefee) Buxton. Barbara graduated from Sunset Hill School and attended Mt. Vernon Junior College in Washington D.C., as did her mother. She later received her B.A. in Business from KU, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Barbara belonged to the KC Chapter of the DAR, Friends of Art and many charitable organizations, and was previously active in Lost Dog Registry and delivering meals to seniors for the Meals-On-Wheels program. Besides her true enjoyment of domestic and world travel, Barbara or "Nannie", as she was known to her grandchildren, especially loved spending time with her family, including visiting her daughter and family in the country. She was very passionate about sports, especially KU and KC teams as well as pro golf and tennis. She enjoyed the theater, dining out, reading mysteries and researching her family history. Her love for travel was expressed through her position as a travel consultant for over 30 years. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and later Community Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Donald B. Mickey, whom she met on safari in East Africa in 1968; daughter, Carrie Lewis (Stafford) Berhorst and son-in-law, Robin T. Berhorst of Lawson, Mo.; granddaughter, Meghan Barbara Jesse, of KCMO; grandson, Jack Corbin Berhorst of Lawson, Mo.; cousins Janie (Cooper) Overall of Placentia, Calif., Sally (Charles) Adams of San Marino, Calif., and their children and grandchildren, Marion Boyd, Jr. (Maggie) and daughter of Memphis, Tenn.; stepdaughter, Donna (George) Hamm, Burlington, Wis., children, grandchildren and great grandchild; friends too numerous to mention, but very special ones include Polly, Ann, Georgette and Jean.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, "Sonny", aunt Mary Jane Menefee, cousin Menefee D. Blackwell, and a close friend, Jane.

Barbara resided at Bishop Spencer Place with her husband from 2005 until her death. Her family would like to thank the staff at Bishop Spencer Place for all the compassion and care they showed her. Barbara was always the gracious hostess and loved to entertain. Her sparkling blue-grey eyes, beautiful smile, and her laughter will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
