Both a musician and actor, he was among those who adapted music to the stage. In Albany, NY, on June 27, 1883, he adapted Berlioz's portions of his "Romeo and Juliet" symphony to a performance of Shakespeare's play of the same name. Though a flute player, this was his first performance as Romeo. He composed music for the early films, including "The Crisis" (1916). He became a US Citizen in 1918.
