Dorothy T. "Dot" Ekas, 89, of Chicora, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 3, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born in Chicora on May 12, 1928. She was the daughter of George Young and Margaret Lichlightner Young Cooper.

She was a long-time active member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, and belonged to the Christian Mothers and the Altar Rosary Society.

In her earlier years, "Dot" had been employed at the Butler Shirt Factory, and retired from the Chicora Medical Center following more than 23 years of service.

She was an active member of the Chicora Senior Center, where she took care of the tables and placemats.

Mrs. Ekas was married in Chicora to Robert Dean Ekas, on March 27, 1948. Mr. Ekas preceded her in death on February 5, 2017.

She is survived by two sons, Robert D. Ekas Jr., and his girlfriend Deb Chianelli, of Ashland, VA, and Gary J. Ekas, and his wife, Pat, of East Brady; three granddaughters, Jennifer Hanson of Houston, TX, Kiley Ekas, and her boyfriend, Joe Bonetto, of East Brady, and Brooke Ekas and her boyfriend, Preston Rumbaugh of Chicora; as well as a great-grandson, Cortland Rumbaugh; five sisters, Loretta Hiles, of Sun City, AZ, Patricia McGinnis, and her husband, Lee, of Chicora, Catherine Greco, and her husband, Mike, of Spring Valley, AZ, Bernadette Hartwell, of Philadelphia, and Donna Weyand, of Ambridge; two sisters-in-law, Esther Young, of Chicora, and LaVaun Long, of Butler; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Posey, and eight brothers, Alfred, Edward, George, Eugene, Harold, and Francis; as well as infant twin brothers.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora-Fenelton Rd., Chicora. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora at 12 noon on Friday with the Rev. Rick Thompson, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery in Chicora
