​Fern Florine Troudt, 96, of Nelson, Nebraska passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Hooper Care Center in Hooper, Nebraska. She was born January 17, 1921 in Ruskin, Nebraska to Alma (Jones) ane Lovell Thayer.

​Fern graduated from the Ruskin High School and attended Hastings College, receiving her Teaching Certificate. She lived the majority of her life in Nelson, Nebraska, moving to Fremont in 2011, and to Hooper in 2014.

​In Nelson, Fern was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ, the Church Circle, Extension Club, VFW Auxiliary and volunteered for the Blood Mobile. Music was important in her life, singing and playing the piano by ear and she was excellent in harmonizing. She composed a song and sent it to a printing company. Fern was a composer, a whistler and a poetry writer.

​She is survived by daughters, Sandy (Ron) Sukstorf of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska; Pam (Jack) Oberlander of West Fargo, North Dakota; son-in-law, Phil Sykes of Norfolk, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 6 step-great grandchildren.

​She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Bonnie Sykes; three sisters; two brothers; son-in-law, Rod Peterson and a grandson, Cole Sukstorf.

​Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson with Pastors Ivan and Joyce Dean officiating. Interment will be at the Nelson Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials are directed to Nelson Community Church of Christ, Wonded Warrior Project in Fern's name and/or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
