Juanita M. Hotchkiss, 89, a longtime resident of Marion, Iowa, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Summit Point Senior Living, Marion.

The family will greet friends 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, Marion, conducted by Vicki Standley. Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Madison Cemetery, rural Lamont, Iowa.

Juanita is survived by her children, D’Anne Hotchkiss of Charlotte, North Carolina and John (Heather) Hotchkiss of Independence, Iowa; four grandchildren, Karen (Adrian) Hill of Vinton, Iowa, Sherry Hoover of Richmond, Virginia, Randy Strickell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Eric (Charissa) Strickell of Winthrop, Iowa; and four great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Levi Hill, and McKynzie and Quinn Strickell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack H.; two infant sons; siblings, Rev. John W. Jakway and Carolyn Roepke Brandt.

Juanita was born April 12, 1928, in Aurora, Iowa, the daughter of Charles H. and Faith (Butterworth) Jakway. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1945.

On January 24, 1953, Juanita was united in marriage to Jack H. Hotchkiss in Waterloo.

She was a lifetime member of the Aurora Historical Society and a longtime member of the Rural Homemakers of America. Juanita was very active at First United Methodist Church in Marion, including teaching Sunday school for thirteen years.

A memorial fund has been established in Juanita’s memory.
