Ella was the daughter of Jacob Seek and Louisa Jennie Robinson. Her siblings were Mary Jane, Malissa Elizabeth (James Monroe Akers), Emma, James, Joseph, Eliza, Caroline, George, Jacob, Virginia 'Jennie' and Allie.

She married Marcellus Harold Cary on January 11, 1883 in Ray, Missouri. Their children were Jennie, Forrest Tera, Lillian, Beulah Gertrude and Claude Jacob.

Paternal grandparents were Joseph Matthew Seek and Mary C. King.

Maternal grandfather was James Robinson.
