Lena Jane was the daughter of Hector and Atelia Bell Lowery. She married Graham Chavis, Sr.

Mrs. Lena Chavis, 65, widow of Graham Chavis of Route 1, Shannon, died suddenly about 10 a.m. Wednesday at home.
The body will be at Biggs Funeral Home until one hour prior to the funeral to be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Saddletree Church of God, conducted by the Rev. Roy Tucker and the Rev. Montana Locklear. Burial will be in Oxendine Cemetery.
Surviving are three sons, Huey Chavis of Route 3, Lumberton, Lacy Chavis of Route 1, Shannon and Graham Chavis Jr., of Route 4, Red Springs; five daughters, Mrs. Robert Pickens of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Bobby James of Davenport, Iowa, Mrs. Charles McMillan of Route 1, St. Pauls, and Mrs. Willie Archie Hammonds and Mrs. Donald Locklear, both of Route 3, Lumberton; a foster son, Johnny Chavis of the home; 27 grandchildren; two brothers, Charlie Lowery of Route 1, Shannon, and David Lowery of Kinston; four sisters, Mrs. Anne Bell Vurnette, Mrs. Rosie Lee Lowery, Mrs. Giatrice Cummings and Mrs. Kassie Cummings, all of Route 1, Shannon.
