Alva Jean Gregory Parker, 90, of Hickory, passed away September 12, 2017 at Trinity Village.

Born April 4, 1927 in Alexander Co., she was the daughter of the late Arthur Glenn Gregory and Della Mae Goble Gregory.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Bill Gregory, Glenn Gregory and sisters, Margaret G. Ashley, Betty G. Lippard.

Jean went to school at Celeste Henkel in Troutman, NC. She loved basketball and was a big NC State Wolfpack fan. She and her sister, Betty, both played basketball in High School. Jean was very giving. She loved shopping with her daughter Brenda almost every Saturday for many years. She loved Spencer Road Baptist Church and deeply loved the Lord and her family. Her spirituality leaves a legacy for all.

The Parker family would like to thank the staff at Trinity Village for their loving and excellent care. They will never be forgotten.

Survivors include her beloved husband of sixty seven and a half years, J.D. Parker of Hickory; daughter. Brenda Joyce Parker Slater and husband Harold “Butch”of Hickory; brothers, Jimmy Gregory of Stony Point, Espey Gregory of Statesville; sisters, Shirley G. Shaver, Wanda G. Potts, Marie G. Houston, all of Statesville; grandson, Kevin Slater of Hickory; great- grandson, Brenden Slater of Hickory.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Macon Ballard officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
