She lived in Calhoun County most of her life, in Missouri for a few years, and came to the Sutherland vicinity in 1934. She taught public school a number of years. She was a member of the Methodist Church, of the American Legion Auxiliary, of the East Side Circle, and the Ladies' Aid of the Christian Church.
In January 1894, she was married to Edwin Elsbury at Rockwell City, Iowa. To them were born 8 children, the first of whom, twin sons, died in infancy.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1939. Since that time "Grandma " Elsbury, as she was called by her many friends, lived in Sutherland.
She is survived by her six children: Harold of Sutherland; Wayne of Hampton; Mabel (Mrs. Art Leach) of Hughson, Calif.; Howard of Sutherland; Robert of Marietta, Minn.; and Kenneth of Sutherland; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a brother, Earl Owens of Wyoming, a sister, Laura Owens of California, and many other relatives.
She had been in falling health for a number of years and only recently had gone to a nursing home to live. It was there she fell and broke her hip, subsequently being hospitalized at Sioux City, at which place she passed away.
