James R Rogers was born in 1834 in Itawamba, Mississippi, the son of Missiniah and John. He married Susannah Samantha Maness on February 15, 1858, in Alcorn, Mississippi. They had three children during their marriage. James was a Physician. He enlisted as a 2nd Lt. CO P 10th Regt MS Volunteers which later became Co G & was sometimes referred to as MS Infantry. He was Mustered in on 28, March 1862 by Capt. Betts at Fulton, Itawamba CO., MS. He was promted in August 1862 to 1st LT.Wounded in Battle of Munfordville,sometime between 14 Sep and 16 Sep. Wounded in the neck. He was treated in a field hospital for over a year and never returned home. He died as a young father on August 21, 1863, in Cave City, Kentucky, at the age of 29.
