Richard Charles Johnson, age 80, of Baxter passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Care Center in Crosby. Richard's memorial service will be 4 pm Saturday, September 9, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, with visitation one hour before the service. Interment will be at Baxter City Cemetery.

Richard was born October 1, 1935 in Elbow Lake, to Tobias and Rosie Johnson. He was raised and educated in Fergus Falls, graduating from high school in 1955. He served his country honorably in the US Navy. In 1961, Richard was married to Carolyn Lillis. The couple lived in Fergus Falls and Wadena. Richard was widowed when Carolyn passed away 25 years ago. He found love again with Marie Smith, and they were married in 1998, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter. Richard worked as a welder for North Star Plating for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He participated in a bowling league, and had a love for horses.

Richard will be remembered and missed by his loving wife, Marie; two daughters, Cindy Stanich, of Crosby and Christie (Scott) Benner, of Hereford, AZ; four stepchildren, Tammy (Blair) Raph, of Fergus Falls, Mick (Debi) Heyer, of Prior Lake, Chris Smith, of St. Paul, and Matt (Alyssa) Smith, of San Francisco, CA; four grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carolyn; siblings, Wayne, Harvey, Lloyd, Lillian, and MaryAnn; a stepson, Dennis Heyer; and a step-grandson, Keith Heyer.
