Walter G. Brooks, 89, a resident of the Canton Christian Home, passed away there early Tuesday morning. He was born in Canton, a son of the late William and Lillian Garrison Brooks, and was a life resident. Walter was a 1934 graduate of McKinley High School. He retired in 1981 from Hummel IGA in North Canton where he was a meat cutter. He previously worked at Kahler & Kahler Meat Market for 25 years, and then owned and operated Brooks Food Market at 4th St. and Grandview Ave. NW from 1954-64. Walter was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple and the Jolly 60s of the church, a 54-year member of Wm. McKinley Lodge #431, F. & A. M., the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, Nazir Grotto, McKinley Chapter # 1013 A. A. R. P., and the Edgefield Chapter of the A. A. R. P. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed at Eglin Field in Pensacola, FL. Preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Wilma G. Brooks, in Nov. 26, 2004, two sisters and one brother, Nettie Mae Brooks, Aline Adams, and Joseph Brooks, and a grandson, Jeffery Brooks. Survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Linda Brooks, of Canton, and Robert and Anna Brooks, of Palm Harbor, FL, five grandchildren, Sean Brooks, Stacey Narus and her husband, Mark, Christopher Brooks and his wife, Jessie, Alyssa Brooks, and Kristina Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Michaela and Ryland Brooks.
