Born in McKinney on Dec. 27, 1919, Cynthia Marie Younger, affectionately known as "Reesie" to her family, was the third of five children born to Merrill W. and Elma J. Hunn Younger. After graduating from McKinney's first Boyd High School, she attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, now Texas Woman's University.

In 1942, Cynthia was secretary in the engineering department of the Army's new Ashburn General Hospital in McKinney, where she met Glen Gamble "Barney" Houchin. They were married the next year on Nov. 27, 1943, at First Christian Church in McKinney. After his return from overseas duty and World War II ended, the couple moved to Fort Worth, where Barney entered Texas Christian University to complete his college work.

Cynthia held several secretarial positions in Fort Worth prior to her employment as a secretary in the engineering offices of Standard Oil & Gas Co., later Amaco, from which she retired after 25 years of service.

Cynthia was a member and a deacon of University Christian Church, a member of Moudy Sunday School Class and the Needlers' women's group of her church. With her husband's membership in the Westside Kiwanis, she gave many hours in work to assist in its charitable endeavors.

The family recognizes and appreciates the many kindnesses extended to Cynthia during her most recent illness, and especially thanks to friends Mozell Warren, Bridget Thomas, Dr. Mark Randle and Dr. Neil Ravella.
