Bertha Bays, 79, of Crossett, departed this life on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado. Mrs. Bays of was native of Bastrop, Louisiana and a resident of Crossett. She was a retired dental assistant for Dr. Phillip Pennington, a Baptist and a member of the Harmony Baptist Church in Collingston, Louisiana.

She is preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Rena Patterson; her parents, Jasper and Dollie Lee Crenshaw Sowyers; two brothers, Arthur Will Sowyers and James Alton Sowyers; three sisters, Willie Joe Boyer, Mellisa McGhee and Mamie Bonnette.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Billy Bays; a son, Jimmy Cook and wife, Tammy, all of Crossett; two daughters, Vicky Naff and husband, Steve, of Crossett and Tolessa Jeffers and husband, Larry, of Hamburg; two brothers, Henry Ray Sowyers and wife, Diane, of Hamburg and Raymond Sowyers of Haughton, Louisiana; a sister, Sheila Ann Eppinette of Bastrop, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Shay Pearson, Brad Naff, Ashli Cook, Chris Cook, Jarett Graves and Jason Holland; nine great-grandchildren; two special friends, Martha Jones and Martha Posey and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services are 3 p.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Alan Eppinette and Bro. Keith Boseman officiating. Burial will be in the Crossroads Cemetery.
