John Braitsch opened the first boot and shoe store in Wichita in 1872.

He was born in Germany. When a young man of 22, he came to America with two brothers, Roman and Constantin Braitsch.

He was the father of five sons, Frank, John, Joseph, Will and Ben, and three daughters, Annie, Mayme and Pauline.
