Retired Army SSG Norman Paul Hershberger, age 74, of 407 Wild Plum Road, Maxton, North Carolina, was born on November 5, 1942, to the late Roy Paul Hershberger and the late Otie Lee Crihfield Hershberger in Roane County, West Virginia. He departed this life on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Southeastern Hospice House, Lumberton, North Carolina.

Mr. Hershberger was a native of Clendenin, West Virginia, A Vietnam War veteran; Norman proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Army. He was a professional truck driver for 30 years, a carpenter and a metal worker.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 47 years, Linda Withrow Hershberger; one son, Shannon Leslie Hershberger and wife Lisa Hershberger; one daughter, Shawn Leigh Hershberger and fiancé Travis McNeill; one grandchild, Alexander Paul Hershberger; one brother, Erich Eugene Hershberger and wife Candace; two sisters, Sandra Lea Hershberger and husband David Mitchell and Sharon Lynn Hershberger; two nieces, Ericha Wilson and Lesli Beavers; three nephews, Daniel Hershberger, Matthew Brown and Christopher Beavers; one great-niece, Sadie Wilson; one great-nephew, Carter Brooks; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Norman Paul Hershberger were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 5, at Heritage Funeral Home, Hardin's Chapel, Red Springs, North Carolina. Burial with Full Military Honors followed in the Bracey Jones Family & Friends Cemetery, Maxton, North Carolina. Rev. Carl Redding officiated. The family and friends were received from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 5, at the funeral home.
