Sarah was the third of eleven children, the first four of whom were born in Wythe County, VA, then one in Fayette County IN and the rest in Shelby County, IN where the family settled.

She married Thomas Wickliff in Shelby County, IN on January 8, 1835 and they were the parents of 11 children.
