LEWIS J. MCGONIGAL, 80 ROCKTON - Lewis John McGonigal, 80, of Rockton died Friday, March 2, 2007, in his home. He was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Rockton, the son of Lawrence and Della Olson McGonigal. Lewis was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He married Janice Petitt on Nov. 24, 1956, in Beloit. Lewis was employed by the Winnebago County Forest Preserve as the Macktown Golf Course superintendent from 1960 to 1991. He was a member of the American Legion Post 332 in Rockton. Survivors include his wife, Janice McGonigal of Rockton; son, John (Melissa) McGonigal of Loganville, Ga.; daughter, Jill McGonigal of Delavan, Wis.; grandchildren, January (Dan) Fry of Roscoe and Patrick McGonigal of Loganville, Ga; great-granddaughter, Summer Fry; brothers, James McGonigal of Machesney Park, Morris McGonigal of Roscoe and Charles McGonigal of Rockford; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Larry McGonigal; and sister, Muriel McGonigal. Memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, in Daley-Murphy-Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to the Beloit Regional Hospice or the Macktown Living History Education Center.
