In his book titled, "The Wesley Chapel Story," by Irving K. Campbell, the author relates that his father, David Campbell, died a "tragic death by accident in 1894" and was buried in the family lot in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Wesley Chapel was located near the historic town of Wall Street in Linn County, Kansas. "No identifying landmark is now in existence (in 1961) of the Wall Street location." The Wall Street post office was in operation from 1872 - 1902. A previous name was Penley's Store, according to the author. (Singleton F. Pendlay resided in Centerville, Linn, Kansas in the 1870 census.)

David and Ruth were the parents of twelve sons and daughters, six born in Illinois and six more born in Kansas, according to the book. The 1880 Centerville, Linn, Kansas census records David Campbell, 45, with his wife Ruth, 32. Williston is recorded as age 20; Anna, 16; Frank, 14; Rubie, 12; Maggie, 9; Martha, 7; & Allison, 4. a son. The 1880 census records David's birthplace as New Jersey, with his parents also born in New Jersey.

This family is also recorded in the 1885 Centerville, Linn, Kansas state census. The 1895 state census in the same location records Ruth Campbell, 52, as the head of the family. Allison, 19; Lee, 14; Roland, 13; [Irving,] 11; & Nellie, 9; are recorded with her.

Ruth Campbell, 54, born in Illinois, is recorded as a widow in the 1900 Medford, Grant, Oklahoma census, as the mother-in-law of Guy M. Hallam, 26, born in Iowa. (wife Martha, 24, born in Kansas) Rolland Campbell, 18, [Irving] K. Campbell, 16; & Nellie M. Campbell 14, all born in Kansas, are recorded as in-laws of Guy M.
