Sarah "Fran" Tartaglio, age 87, of Bridgeport, died surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Talmadge Park Health Care in East Haven. She was the widow of Anthony Tartaglio.
Mrs. Tartaglio was born in West Point, Georgia to the late Ruth (Rice) and W. A. Ledford. A woman of boundless energy, she was affectionately known as "Go-Go Grandma". After losing her brother, Charles, during World War II, she developed a strong compassion for our veterans. She work tirelessly as a volunteer at VFW Post 145 in Bridgeport for most of her adult life. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary and represented Post 145 by acting as the flag bearer in every parade. Fran received many awards for her dedicated service to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Santacqua and her husband, Val of West Barnstable, MA and Terri Kozakiewicz and her husband, Brian of Centreville, MA; one son, Todd Tartaglio of Connecticut; one brother, Robert Ledford of Valley, AL; eleven grandchildren, Mark Johnson, Jr., Jeffrey James Johnson, Frank E. Santacqua, Jennifer DiTroia, Terri Kozakiewicz, Brianne Motill, Samantha Kozakiewicz, Ashley Rose Kozakiewicz, Kristen Kaplan, Dean Tartaglio and Rhiana Westlund; and many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Tina DiTroia; three sisters, Mildred, Evelyn and Gillie Bell; and two brothers, Charles Alton and William "Buck" Ledford.
Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. A prayer service will follow at 1 pm.
