James Leroy Drake, age 77, passed away Sat., February 1, 1992, at Caravilla Nursing Home. He was born January 15, 1915, in Barnum, WI, the son of William Jasper and Cora (Hall) Drake. He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School and received a C.L.U. Degree from the American College of Life Underwriters, Bryn Mawr, PA. He married Bette Silberhom on August 26, 1944. Mr. Drake was employed by the Principal Life Insurance Co. of Des Moines, LA, from 1945 until he retired in 1980. He served in World War II stationed in England and Germany and was a member of VFW He was a past president of the Kiwanis Noon Club, past president of the Humane Society and a member of Masonic Lodge #55. He taught the Life Underwriters Training Course at the vocational school for several years and served on the Methodist Hospital Board, Madison, WI, for 15 years. Mr. Drake was active in the community and Cargill United Methodist Church of which he was Finance Director when their present church was built. He also sang in the Cargill Church Choir for many years and served on various committees there. He is survived by his wife, Bette Silberhom Drake; I son; two daughters; 5 grandchildren; ; and AFS daughter of whom the family is very fond; I sister; several nieces and nephews. Services Feb. 4. at Cargill United Methodist Church. Burial in Milton Lawns Memorial Park - (Also appears in cemetery transcript). Schneider Funeral Home. Janesville Gazette February 3, 1992.
