OREGON PIONEER
DIES AT CAMAS
Camas, Wash. - May 22 (1935) Funeral
services were held yesterday for Mrs.
Elizabeth Jane Herring, 96, one the
earliest pioneers in the district who came
west by ox team and covered wagon in
1860. She died Saturday. She and her
husband were among the first white persons
to settle in Linn County, Oregon, having
made their home there immediately after
coming west.
She married Hiram Herring in Missouri
in 1853. She was the mother of 17 children.
Mr. Herring died in 1909, after they had
been married 56 years. Children surviving
are John of Talent, OR., Jake of Haines, OR,
Mrs. Emma Lambert of Walla Walla; Mrs.
Ella Christiansen and Tom and Cyrus
Herring of Washougal; Frank of Salesville,
Mont. and Ed of Kellogg, Idaho.

Mrs. Elizabeth June Hearing, 96, died
Saturday evening at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Ella Christenson of Pleasant
Valley. Among the survivors are eight sons,
John, Irvin, William and Jack in Oregon, Ed
in Idaho, Frank in Montana, and Tom and
Siras in Washougal and two daughters, Mrs.
Emma Lambert in Walla Walla and Mrs.
Christenson.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday
afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Methodist
church in Washougal.
Interment will be in Washougal
cemetery and the body will be in Swank's
chapel until just prior to the services.
