She was born about 1801 in Harrison County, Virginia (now West Virginia). The approximate year of birth is based on the fact that it does not appear her father gave his consent for her to marry.

Her family had settled in Indiana in an area that had not yet formed a county or townships; so when Hannah married Stephen Corwin, he had to travel by horseback over 50 miles to Connersville to get a marriage license. According to Marion County, Indiana Marriage Records they married on June 6, 1822. The wedding took place at the parents cabin located in Fall Creek Township, Madison County, Indiana, which formed the next year 1823 (two years later the Ellsworth farm was part of the newly formed Adams Township).

--"Historical Sketches and Reminiscenses of Madison Co., Indiana" by Forkner & Dyson, 1897. PAGE 723:

"Fall Creek Township was the first settled in Madison Co. and here the first wedding took place; here the first court was held, and the first white child was born. Elias Hollingsworth and Wm. Curtis were the first to arrive in 1820. They came from Springfield, Ohio... The first marriage in Madison Co. occurred in Fall Creek Township in 1821, - Stephen Corwin and Hannah Ellsworth were the contracting parties. Their marriage was consummated under difficulties. The county at the time was not organized. Mr. Corwin was compelled to go to Connersville on horseback to procure a marriage license. It is said that there was no table upon which to spread the marriage feast, and that a door was lifted from its wooden hinges and utilized for that purpose".

Little is known about Hannah and Stephen after their marriage. In land transactions for Madison Co. it is learned that Hannah's brother William Ellsworth purchased land from them on June 30 1829. After this date they seem to have disappeared; as no census records have been located.
