Mariano, a native and resident of Chili, passed away at his home in Chili. He was predeceased by his parents Felix Maestas Sr. and Sofia; siblings: Amabel “Mabel” Córdova, Ubaldo Maestas, Sister Felicia, Felix Maestas Jr., Francequita “Francis” Atencio, and María Clorinda “Clora” Archuleta.

Mariano was survived by his wife Dora Estella Maestas; 9 children: Larry Maestas (wife Janice), Elmer Maestas, Clovis Maestas (wife MaryVivian), Diana Lopéz (husband Irvin), Alex Maestas (wife Carol), Melva Contreras (husband Daniel), Eva Maestas, Belinda (husband Pablo), Mary Martinez (husband Aaron); sister Celedonia “Sally” Barela; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Mariano married Dora Estella Maestas on 21 February 1949 in San Juan Pueblo. He had many occupations throughout his life, the last of which was for the New Mexico State Human Services Department where he had worked for over 10 years and retired in 1976. After his retirement he spent his days enjoying life, tending to his garden, going for hikes near the hills of the Rio del Oso, and spending quality time with his family.

A Memorial Mass was on 30 June 2017 at the San José Catholic Church in Hernández.
