Helen was born April 20, 1929, in Callaway, Neb. to Paul Addison Bissell and Addie (Hendricks) Williams Bissell. She graduated from Callaway high school in 1947. After graduating from Bishop Clarkson School of Nursing, Helen journeyed to Myrtle Point to begin her career. Helen worked as a nurse at Mast Hospital until it closed, then continued her nursing career at Coquille Valley Hospital until her retirement in 1993.
Helen married Preston “Clay” Caffey in 1953 and they had two children, Barbara Ann Caffey and James Michael Caffey.
Outside of work Helen enjoyed genealogy and gardening. She was a member of the Coquille Valley Genealogy Club, and she served a term on the Myrtle Point Health District Board. Helen was an avid reader, and raised children who are avid readers.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Barbara Caffey of Myrtle Point; son, Jim Caffey and wife Echo of Myrtle Point; grand-children, Jill Toepfer and husband Matt of LaPine, Amy Woodworth of LaPine, Kelley Caffey of Myrtle Point, and Echo’s children Andrea Rains of Roseburg and Cory Hamilton of Texas; great grand-children Kiah Toepfer, Lily Toepfer, Kyle Woodworth, Colton Rains, Trennon and Teague Hamilton. She is also survived numerous nieces and nephews, including Sherma Syron of Myrtle Point and Niel Caffey of Coos Bay.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Clay Caffey; her parents; and her siblings Ralph Williams, Lilas Williams Prideaux, Rollie Williams, and Charles Williams.
