Mohawk Valley Register July 4, 1861

An occurrance of a disturbing nature occurred on the farm of Peter White near the village of Ephratah, on the 25th. Mr. Miller was leading a horse into a pasture lot, when the animal halted and Ezra Dockstader, who was passing by the woods, axe in hand, approached the beast and gently tapped her with the handle of the axe. He urged her along, when he received a severe kick on the lower jaw near the jugular vein. He survived the hurt about an hour and a half. Deceased was a married man about 20 (could be 29, hard to read)years of age, leaves a wife and one child.
