Benjamin was born to Christopher Long and Sarah Turner-Long. He married Rebecca Jenkins in February 1814 in Jackson Co, OH. They had 11 known children: Margaret who married Napoleon B McComas, William, Elisha, Sarah E, Leonidis, Franklin, Francis Marion, Nancy, Martha, Marion, and Mary G. Benjamin was a private in the OH State Militia during the War of 1812. During the war, he fought under General Tupper against the British and Indians at the Battle of Maumee, in the northwestern part of Ohio. By 1850, the family had moved to Jasper Co, IL where he lived until his death.
