James "Papa Toots" Kirkland

James “Papa Toots” Kirkland, 73 of Pampa, died Saturday June 17, 2017 in Pampa.
Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 23, 2017 at Calvary Christian Fellowship in Shamrock with Brother Joe G. Jernigan, pastor, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Kirkland was born September 14, 1943 in Wellington and attended school at Samnorwood. He married Bettie Davis on December 27, 1962 in Wellington. They moved to Pampa from Canadian in 1988. James was a mechanic most of his life up until the last few years where he worked at The Pam Apartments in the maintenance department. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and loved to build patio furniture and do other woodworking projects. He loved spending time with his family, but most of all he loved being “Papa Toots." He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Tressie Kirkland; a sister, Faye Bonner; five brothers, Pete Kirkland, Bill Kirkland, Donald Kirkland, Butch Kirkland, and J. L. Kirkland.
He is survived by his wife, Bettie of the home; five sons, James Kirkland and wife Tina of Saudi Arabia, Kevin Kirkland and wife Beverley of Pampa, Mickeal Kirkland and wife Amy of Canadian and Timmy Kirkland, all of Canadian, and Jeffery Kirkland and wife Carrie of Pampa; a daughter, Donna Davis of Pampa; a brother, Walter Ray Kirkland and wife Jeania of Hinton, OK; three sisters, Wille Bee Hooten and Naomi Robertson both of Shamrock, and Shirley Gibson of Odessa; 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
