SOUTH BEND - Dale “Butch” Chlebowski, 73, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 18, 2017, in his home.

Dale, “Butch,” was born February 4, 1944, in South Bend, to the late Norbert and Alice (Smigielski) Chlebowski. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Chlebowski.

On June 23, 1965, Butch married Kathleen Kubiak in St. Stanislaus B&M; they separated but remained good friends. She survives along with their son, Daniel Chlebowski; daughters, Rhonda (Larry) Shirley, Deborah (Robert) Allison, and Pam Staveley; grandchildren, Alexis & Randy Light, Kyle Allison, Alyssa Bella, Emma Staveley, Sarah & Lauren Chlebowski; sisters, Nancy (Richard) Fenimore, Patricia (Jesse) Moreno; sister-in-law, Stella Chlebowski.

Butch worked for Wheel Horse for 28 years then retired from AM General. He was a member of the American Legion Post 357, UAW, and was a union leader and President of the local. Butch enjoyed restoring cars and trucks, woodworking, fishing, shooting, riding motorcycles and country music. He was very much a handyman; many people could count on him to come fix things for them. He built his family their first home, then later furniture for his children's homes. Butch did machining from the back garage called “Dales Machining.” He loved spending time with his family; every Sunday they had “family time” with Butch cooking their meals. His famous quote, “Let Me Show You An Easier Way To Do This,” will always be remembered by his children and friends.

The family would like to express a special Thank You to the Relias Family for being great neighbors and the love and support they extended to Butch.

A Family Celebration will be held from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm on Friday, June 23, 2017, in the American Legion, Post #357, 5414 W. Sample St., South Bend.

ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., is assisting the family.

Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
