Mrs. Violet Rainey
Hugo -- Mrs. Violet Rainey, widow of Lawrence Rainey, died in Memorial Hospital in Hugo at 6:10 PM. Tuesday. She had been critically ill for several days.
Funeral services will be 2 PM., Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Hugo with the Rev. Edward Kilpatrick of Westly United Methodist Church officiating. Coffey Funeral Home here will be in charge.
Mrs. Rainey was a 2-year member of the board of education of School District 39, having been re-elected to that position only a few weeks ago. She was past president of the board. She also was a former school teacher and a retired social worker for the Department of Institutions Social and Rehabilitative Service. After her retirement she established and for several years operated a kindergarten school.
She was a longtime member of the Wesly Church where she had been pianist for more than 20 years. She was born on Sept. 17, 1898 near Enloe, Tex., a daughter of E. C. Bryans and the former Miss Annie Mc Whorter. She was married in December, 1922 to Mr. Rainey, who died March 29, 1950.
She is survived by three children, Bill Rainey, a professor at Eastern Central State College at Ada, and two daughters, Mrs Robert Harrison of Amassa, Tex. and Mrs. James Summers of Rockdale, Tex. Six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Norma Adelman of Oklahoma City, also survive.
