A Commissioned Officer in the Massachusetts Militia, Jonathan Barnes fought in the American Revolution. He commanded a company of Minute Men, April 1775. Responded to the alarm of April 19, 1775 (Battle of Lexington). He was commissioned on Feb 21, 1776. His brother Daniel Barnes and cousin Solomon Barnes both served under his command.
