Andrew Shumate was born 1814,
Hickman County, Tennessee, son of
Pvt.Edmund Shumate and Frances
"Fanny" Marsh.
He married in 1839 Elizabeth Philips.
They had eight children.
1)Pvt Thomas J. (1840-died during
Civil War after Aug 1862, patient
in Camp Price Hospital, Jacksonport
Arkansas.)
2)Pvt Edmon (b. 4 Aug 1841 - died
bef 1883, DeKalb, Bowie County,TX.
married 24 Dec 1862 in Healing
Springs, Independence Co. Arkansas
Mary Ellie Mauldin. They had
4 children.
3)Nancy Jane (b. 1843 - died aft
1868. married Lewis Coffman

Hannah was visiting family
in Independence Co. Arkansas
when she met Jacob Smiley
Aleshire, a 7th Day Baptist
minister, who was holding a
revival at Jacksonport.
They married 13 Mar 1883,
Brownsville, Cleburne County,
Arkansas. Hannah was living
there with her sister, Cennie
Emiline Knight.
Jacob and Hannah had 4 children.

Edmund Shumate served in the War
of 1812. He volunteered for service
in West Tennessee Militia which was
sent to New Orleans November 1814.
After the Battle of New Orleans,
Edmund was mustered out. He and
wife Fanny settled on a farm in
Williams Hollow, on Beaver Creek,
Hickman County, Tennessee.
Edmund died 1840. His estate was
probated about 1883, probably after
death of his wife, Fanny.
Fanny may have died that year.
The last record found for Fanny
Shumate was 7 Jun 1870 Census,
Pinewood, Dist. 6, Hickman TN.
She applied for a widow's
military pension after Edmund
died. Unknown if it was granted.
Their daughter, Liddy, a spinster,
managed the farm. Liddy died
between 1880-1887.
