Jessee Harm Harper and his family settled on the headwaters of the Flat Branch creek, at the base of the Flat Top mountain.
Jessee Harm Harper was married to Betsy Minton (or "Menton") and had seven children. His four sons were Lindsey, William (Bill), James (Jim), and Jesse Frank. His three daughters were Sarah, Polly, and Laura. Jesse's life ended toward the last months of the Civil War. After midnight one night a gang of bushwhackers dragged Jessee from his bed, and took him to the top of a hill behind the house and shot him.
