Wilma Seeley Owens, 88, of Ammon, passed away June 7, 2017, at Morningstar Assisted Living Center.

She was born January 25, 1929, in Chester, Idaho, to Blodwen Williams Seeley and Joseph Hyrum Seeley. She grew up in Chester, Idaho, with transitory stints in Logan, Utah. She attended St. Anthony High School. While in high school she worked as a bookkeeper to help support the family. After high school, she spent a brief time living with her brother who was serving in the Army in Los Alamos, New Mexico where she was employed in a factory making men’s neckties.

On June 17, 1953, she married Victor Walter Owens, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

She lived in Ammon since 1955 and was a dutiful homemaker, doting wife and mother of six for over 60 years.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served diligently in many positions in the Primary, Relief Society and Sunday School.

Wilma enjoyed gardening, quilting and above all spending time with her family. Wilma was an exemplary mother and grandmother and an immediate friend to all she met. She served much of her life behind the scenes, too often unrecognized and taken for granted. Until she suffered a stroke in December 2016, she was a regular contributor at the Humanitarian Center where she quilted and helped make toys for disadvantaged children. She served as the glue within her immediate family organizing annual reunions, campouts and picnics. She loved reading. She read whenever and wherever she was and could be found with a book in one hand and a fishing pole in the other while supporting her husband’s infatuation with fishing. She was a textbook grandmother passing along cooking recipes and crafting skills to both grandsons and granddaughters. Her home was always filled with the smells of favorite dishes and baked treats. No one left her home hungry.

She is survived by her children: Son, Steven (Lori) Owens, of Auburn, Wyoming, Son, Brent (Faye) Owens, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Daughter, Karen Belnap, of Salem, Idaho, Son, Mark (Reji) Owens, of Idaho Falls, Son, Eric (Jill) Owens, of Idaho Falls, Brother, Elmo (Marilyn) Seeley, Brother, Max Seeley, Brother, Dwayne (Marie) Seeley, Brother, Lloyd Seeley; 24 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her husband Victor W. Owens, her son, Paul D. Owens, and her daughter-in-law Doris Owens (Escobar); her brothers Mont and Lynn; and her sisters Beth and Zella.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2017, at the Ammon LDS 3rd Ward, 2150 Avocet. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at the Ammon Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
