Company D "Little Fork Rangers", 4th Virginia Cavalry, Mumford's Brigade, Fitz. Lee's Division, Cavalry, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence Culpeper, VA; 5' 7", ruddy complexion, blue eyes, dark hair.
Enlisted for the duration of the war on 3/9/1862 at Oak Shade, he was mustered into Company D, 4th Virginia Cavalry, as a Private.
Absent, sick in Culpeper, on Jan & Feb 1863 Roll.
Present on all subsequent Rolls until POW 5/8/1864 during cavalry engagement near Spotsylvania Court House, VA.; received 5/21/1864 from Belle Plain, VA. at Fort Delaware, DE.; Oath of Allegiance and released 5/11/1865.

Postwar, he owned a shoe & boot-making business in Staunton, Virginia for several years before moving to Washington, DC.

The 4th Virginia Cavalry Regiment completed its organization at Sangster's Cross Roads, Prince William County, Virginia, in September, 1861. Its members were recruited in the counties of Prince William, Chesterfield, Madison, Culpeper, Powhatan, Gouchland, Hanover, Fauquier, Buckingham, and the city of Richmond.
