Tazewell was a descendent of Hiram L. Amiss and his wife, Emily Rives Young.

Tazewell would enlist in the Union Army during the Civil War.

Tazewell B. Amiss was a member of the Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, DC. He was appointed to the Department March 3, 1870. He retired in 1907, after 37 years of service.

He was my 3rd great-uncle.
