20 Feb 2007: Elwood L. "Fat" Honafius, 84, Lebanon, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006, in his home. He was born February 1, 1922, in West Lebanon, a son of the late Harry F. and Helen M. Smith Honafius. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired steelworker from Bethlehem Steel, Lebanon. He was a member of Friendship Fire Company and Rescue Hose Fire Company No. 4 and VFW Post No. 23. Surviving are son Roger L. Honafius of Wichita, KS; daughter Dolores M. Brown of San Antonio, TX; step-children Jean Herdina of Akron, OH, Ruth Vasil of Lebanon, and Gary Hauck of Grand Rapids, MI; brother Harry E. Honafius Jr. of Lebanon; sister Christine M. Klopp of Myerstown; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was the husband of the late Elsie E. Thierwechter Honafius who died April 2, 1999. Service Thursday, February 22, at Christman's Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. [Lebanon Daily News]
