Helen Elizabeth Block was born April 27, 1914 in Grenville, Day County, SD, the youngest of seven children of Joseph John Block (1878–1960) and Cecelia (Mondry) Block (1886–1916). Helen’s mother, Cecilia, passed away when Helen was only two years old. On November 24, 1931 she married Bernard Joseph Lewno, also of Grenville, SD. While they lived in Grenville, they had two sons, Anthony (Tony), Richard (Rich). Sometime later they moved to Corona, SD and started farming wheat and raising chickens, pigs and dairy cattle. There they had two more children, Gerald (Jerry) and Phyllis. They were a close couple that enjoyed having family and friends visit. They also enjoyed going into town on Saturday nights to dance. In 1981, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by attending a Catholic mass in Wilmot, SD and hosting a big party with family and friends on the family farm in Corona. She and Ben were adored by their many grandchildren. She passed away on October 14, 1984 and was laid to rest in Wilmot, SD where her and her husband, Ben and family attended church. After her death, Ben moved to Altoona, Iowa to live with his daughter Phyllis and her family. He passed away a short time later on May 3, 1985. He was laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Helen, in Wilmot.
