Gerry Lakey, 91, of San Angelo passed away Tuesday morning, January 8, 2008, at his home after a short illness.

Family visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, January 11, 2008, at the Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 12, 2008, at the St. Luke United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

He was born December 20, 1916 in Wheeler County, Texas to Leo Bailey and Bessie Fondren Lakey. The family moved to Littlefield, Texas, when he was a young child. He was the eldest of six children.

He married Wanette Simmons on December 20, 1947, in Lubbock, Texas.

He served 42 months in the Army Air Corp during World War II.

Gerry worked for GTE for 37 years and retired from there in 1983. He was an active member of St. Luke Methodist Church and the CIHU Sunday School class of over 50 years. He was a charter member of the Concho Valley Telephone Pioneer Association. He and his wife square and round danced for 25 years and were active members of the San Angelo Square and Round Dance Club. They have lived in Lubbock, Dallas and San Angelo.

The members of the CIHU Sunday school class will be honorary pallbearers. Pallbearers will be Bill Feathers, Ed Thurston, John Broome, Joe Lawrie, Dause Sherman and Weldon Riley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanette Lakey of San Angelo and two daughters, Denise Lakey and her husband, Joe Simmons of Farmington, N.M. and Melissa Siedell and her husband, Ken of Denver, CO; two grandsons, Travis Simmons of Farmington, N.M. and Quade Siedell of Denver, CO., one granddaughter, Olivia Siedell of Denver, CO. and one sister-in-law, six nephews, and one niece.

Memorials in Gerry's name may be given to St. Luke Methodist Church Building Fund at 2781 W. Ave N. San Angelo, Texas 76901 or Vista Care Hospice at 402 N. Bryant San Angelo, Texas 76903 or to the donor's favorite charity.
