AGE 66 YEARS
Steven M. Ohnmeiss, of Montoursville, passed away at his residence Tuesday, May 23, 2017.
He was a son of Ray and Nellie Wright Ohnmeiss. He was married to the former Penny Wood April 26, 1980.
Steve joined the U.S. Marine Corps and continued on to Officer candidate school. He proudly served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Navy submarine service as a supply officer. He attained the rank of Lt. Commander. He was assigned to the USS Tulibee and USS Greenling with a tour of Iceland where he and his wife enjoyed the culture and nature of the country. Upon retiring from the Navy, he returned to Montoursville and became a case worker for the Department of Public Assistance.
He actively attended Calvary Baptist Church where he was an usher and taught Vacation Bible School. He loved being Poppa. He loved his family and friends. He may not have been an outgoing social butterfly, but he was someone you could count on.
He was an avid reader, master of useful trivia and facts, Sudoku puzzle player and an in-home jeopardy genius. Over the years he gladly donated his time to his church, the James V. Brown Library and Volunteers of America.
Steve’s survivors include his wife, Penny; one daughter, Melissa J. Cumberland (Keith), of North Ridgeville, Ohio; one granddaughter and his two granddogs, Atticus and Cooper; one sister, Sherry Pfirman, of South Williamsport. He was predeceased by a brother, Terry; and a sister, Sandra.
Interment will be in the Montoursville Cemetery.
