He died at the Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville. His wife of 53 years, Nellie Wright Ohnmeiss, passed away in 1997. Ray was employed for 37 years at the fomer Syntex Fabric, Inc., and retired from the Williamsport Area School District in 1985. He attended Williamsport schools. Ray was a WWII Army Air Corp Veteran serving with the 306th Air Drome Squadron of the Fifth Air Force in the Pacific Theatre. At the time of his death, Ray was survived by a daughter, Sherry (Carl) Pfirman of Williamsport; a son, Steven (Penny) Ohnmeiss of Mountoursville; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three sisters, Beverly Fike of Williamsport, Donna (John) Lee Emerick of Jersey Shore, and Marlene (Robert) Person of Cogan Station; and a brother; Elwood C. Ohnmeiss of Montoursville. Ray was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra K. Ohnmeiss who died in 1947; a son, Terry Dennis Ohnmeiss who died in 1976; three brothers, Dean F. Ohnmeiss, Cameron Ohnmeiss and Maynard Ohnmeiss; and a sister, Joyce Ohnmeiss.
