Robert F. Valentine was born in 1845 to William Valentine and Hannah Keith Valentine. He was one of ten children. He had eight older siblings, Joseph, Archibald Washington (b. 1826), John (b. 1828), William H. Valentine (b. 1829), Jesse K. (b. 183)), Eleanor (b. 1838), Oliver Perry (b. 1840), Mary H. (b. 1842) and one younger brother Franklin (b. 1848). He worked as a blacksmith. Robert married Sarah Elizabeth Barger in 1867, when he was 22 years old. They welcomed their first child, just one year later - John Duncan Valentine. Two years later, a daughter was born - Lydia (Lulu) and six years later another daughter - Cora Josephine. Robert and Sarah's youngest child was born on the 20th of April 1884, Charles Watson Valentine. Sadly, Sarah passed away on the 17th of February 1920, at the age of 75. Robert and Sarah had been married for 53 years! Robert joined his beloved in heaven in 1932, he was 87 years old.
