Martin P. Abitz. 83, formerly of 9901 Bittersweet Road, Wausau, died Thursday, March 16. 1989, at the Mount View Care Center. He was born Oct. 16, 1905. in Wausau, son of the late Fred and Catherine Abitz. He married Isla Smart, Sept. 30, 1934, in Wausau. She died Aug. 19, 1980. Prior to his retirement Martin was employed at the American Can Company, Rothschild for 38 years. He was a former member of the Rib Mountain Town Board. He liked reading, poetry and enjoyed trumpet playing in earlier years. Survivors include three sons, Milton (Kathleen), Arnold (Rita) and Eugene, all of Wausau; five daughters, Helen (Patrick) Ryan, Gleason, Virginia (Edwin) Bucknell, Florence (David) Weiler, Mae (Delos) Winter, and Ramona (Leonard) Knight, all of Wausau; 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two brothers Lyle, Schofield, and Christian, Wausau; and one sister, Lucille Rucinski, Schofield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church, Wausau, with Fr. Ambrose Blenker officiating. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be sent to Holy Name Parish, Wausau. Peterson Funeral Home, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
