Nelda was born on September 22, 1929 in Portage, Utah to Isaac Samuel Allen and Elmina Anna Heaton. She lived in Portage with her parents and four sisters and one brother.

Before WW II they moved to Brigham City, Utah where she attended grade school and later Box Elder High School.

She graduated high school in 1947 and worked for the telephone company as an operator.

They settled in Corinne, Utah where they farmed and raised their family over the next 20 years.

Their family moved to Richfield, Idaho in 1973 where they farmed and operated a dairy business.

She enjoyed her family, although with eight children, things were often hectic. The family worked together doing the work on the farm and many vacations together as a family.
