Not much is known about Laura (Reed) Claxton. Suggestions and documentation are encouraged. **Note that birth and death years are approximate.

Laura was the first wife of Thomas Madison Claxton (1845-1897), as documented in the book, "Here's to Daddy Claxton" (see info below). No dates provided. A guess on the marriage year could be sometime around 1867, a guess based loosely on the age of their first child. They were possibly married in northern Arkansas, or southern Missouri, a guess based upon the fact that Thomas had family in both areas.

Known children of this marriage were Jennie L Claxton, born 6 Aug 1870, died 6 May 1953; and James Thomas Claxton, born 10 Sept 1872, died 1 June 1956. In later census records, Laura's daughter Jennie stated she was born in Missouri. In later census records, Laura's son James stated he was born in Arkansas.

Land records prove that Thomas & Laura Claxton were in Fulton County, Arkansas on 20 Jan 1873.

The typed death certificate dated 1953 for Laura's daughter, Jennie (Claxton) Maxwell, clearly states that her father was Thomas M Claxton and her mother was Laura Reed. The information on this document was provided by Jennie's daughter, Ethel (Williams) Martin.

"Here's to Daddy Claxton, Hiram Madison Claxton, His descendants and Related Lines 1817-1995", written by Wanda Claxton Warehime, published in 1995. {A copy of this book is located in the Genealogy Section of the Tulsa Public Library, in Oklahoma.}
