The Smith family was, (and still is), musically inclined. Alf played the fiddle beautifully, as did some of his siblings and cousins, neices, and nephews. His son, Roland Smith is very talented at playing the guitar and singing, and had his own Western band. The Smith family gathered to play music and sing, and some of them played at dances and other functions in the community.
Between 1930 and 1940, the couple separated, and he bought Cora a home in town, the town of Lometa, where she lived the rest of her life. Alf lived in the country a while, but in later years moved into town and lived in two different houses in Lometa. He had lots of Smith Uncles, Aunts, and cousins living in the Lampasas and San Saba Counties. (many of them are still there, lifelong Lometa residents). Alf, and his whole Smith family were all musical, as well as his son, Roland. Alf played the violin beautifully, and some of his brothers and nieces & nephews played fiddles, guitars and piano. They got together often to play when they were younger, and Alf still played for his visiting children in his senior years.
Alfred died in the San Saba Hospital, and was buried in the Lometa City Cemetary.
