Obie was the youngest son of 12 children. He was 75 years old when he died of Colon Cancer in El Paso at Dieu Hosp.

He was farming on his family's farm after marrying Evaline in about 1913.
In the 1920 Census, Obie was a Steam-Fitter for Railroad Shops, El Paso, Texas. His last occupation was as a Foreman for Southwestern Sash and Door, (per D/C).

Obie's first wife Eva died at age 23 in 1918. He then remarried Lucille Alice Johnson and they moved to El Paso, where their son Owen was born.
