Abner, called "A.J.", has many descendants in Stark County, Il, where three of his wives are buried. "His father (Henry Sturm) was a soldier of 1812, and his grandfather a soldier of the Revolution, said to have served in one of the Pennsylvania commands under Steuben."(from "Documents and Biography Pertaining to the Settlement and Progress of Stark County, Illinois 1887). The family arrived in Stark County in 1838, and in 1880 AJ is shown as owning 150 acres there. In the mid 1870s he stopped farming and did some kind of speculating in cattle. He made enough money to buy a very nice brick house, but later lost it, and moved to Elgin, Kansas, where he returned to farming.
A newspaper reports on his move across the Kansas border to Oklahoma (Indian Territory) in 1892 taking "Mrs. Sturm (Lucy) with Wilbur (his 18 year old youngest son with Flora) and the children." He lived there until his death in 1914.
AJ had four wives and 14 verified children. (1) Elizabeth Nowl ("Eliza", married at 16, died at age 19 in 1853, two children who died in infancy. Oddly left out of the "official" bio below), (2) Harriet E. Leasen, m. 1856 (various spellings, 7 children, died 1868 in a measles epidemic), (3) Flora A. Mix, m. 1869 (3 children, she died in 1879), and (4) Lucy Starbord, married in 1888 (2 children, Maude and Eunice, #49118672 not yet linked.)

History of Stark County Illinois page 600:
"A. J. Sturm, who was born May 21, 1830, in Shelby county, Ohio, is the son of Henry and Catherine [Dalrymple] Sturm, the former born in Mason county, Ky., January 29, 1791, the latter in South Carolina, February 5, 1795, whre her people were among the Quaker Farmers. The Sturms were of Dutch origin. Henry and his family of five sons and six daughters settled in Elmira Township in 1838, on lands which he located in 1835. There his wife died in 1862, and himself in 1864. Of their five sons and six daughters, all the sons and five daughters survive. A. J. Sturm, the eighth child and youngest son, grew to manhood here, followed farming successfully until 1875, when he engaged in other business. On February 25, 1856, he married Miss Harriet Leason, who died February 7, 1868. Their children were, William H., Mary E., Eliza H., Ella A., Curtiss A., Charles Oscar, and an adopted son of grandmother Leason. On September 26, 1869, he married Miss Flora A. Mix, who passed away in February 1879, leaving two sons and one daughter-- Hubert E., Bessie I., and Wilbur L. The Sturm family, of which he has been and is a useful member, occupy a large place in the economy of the county.
"A. J. in earlier years was officially connected with Elmira Township, and later with Osceola, as related in the sketches of these divisions of the county. He joined the Odd Fellows in 1860, and since has been a member of the Lodge."
